Sun Group broke ground on the U Bo–Thac Chuoi eco-tourism complex in Quang Tri on 30 October 2026. Here is what the 16.234-trillion-VND plan includes—and when its first phase may open.
Where forested slopes meet the waters of Thac Chuoi, a major new tourism project is beginning to take shape on paper and on site. Sun Group held the groundbreaking for the U Bo Mountain–Thac Chuoi Lake eco-tourism, resort and entertainment complex on 30 October 2026. The ceremony marks the start of a long development process; the planned hotels, cable cars and visitor facilities are not open yet.

A mountain-and-lake destination in western Quang Tri
The project covers approximately 167.48 hectares across Bố Trạch, Thượng Trạch and Trường Sơn communes. Its two focal areas are the lakeside setting of Thac Chuoi and U Bo summit, which rises above 1,000 metres. A planned network of five cable-car routes is intended to connect the lower and higher zones, bringing the lake, forest and mountain viewpoints into one visitor experience.
Sun Group’s announcement puts the total investment at VND 16.234 trillion and describes the complex as a mix of eco-tourism, accommodation and recreation. Its stated long-term target is around five million visitors per year. That figure is an ambition attached to the project, not a measure of current visitor capacity.

What the current plan sets out
At Thac Chuoi, the concept includes lakeside stays, hotels, villas, a cultural and food area, public spaces and retail. The announcement outlines three hotels with a combined 950 rooms. Higher up, the U Bo zone is envisioned as a place for recreation, cultural experiences and rest among the mountain landscape. These are planned elements; their final form will depend on construction and future project updates.
The development is scheduled in four phases, from the fourth quarter of 2026 through the second quarter of 2037. The first phase is expected to finish in the second quarter of 2028, with two cable-car lines and foundational infrastructure planned for operation. Sun Group’s concept image offers a glimpse of the design direction, rather than a picture of a completed resort.

A new link in a broader Central Vietnam itinerary
Quang Tri’s announcement frames U Bo–Thac Chuoi as an addition to the province’s existing mix of caves, heritage sites and coastal destinations, with the potential to complement travel routes linking Phong Nha, Hue, Da Nang and Hoi An. For travelers planning a visit before the new complex opens, established attractions remain the practical choice; this guide to Phong Nha and Paradise Cave is one place to begin.
U Bo–Thac Chuoi is only at the beginning of its development. As each phase moves forward, it may become a new option for exploring Quang Tri’s mountain landscapes. Until visitor facilities are ready, travelers should follow official updates on opening dates and services.
