Hang Son Doong
On May 10, 2024, the cave expedition team of Jungle Boss Company made an exciting discovery in Thung Cave, located in Phong Nha - Ke Bang National Park, Quang Binh. They found a mysterious lake about 1 km from the cave entrance, hidden deep in an area rarely visited. This lake is particularly attractive because of its "hanging" position on the rock cave wall, around 15m higher than the underground river system below. From a distance, the lake resembles a giant mirror, creating an enchanting scene.
Hung Thoong, meaning valley in the local language, is one of the most pristine places in Phong Nha - Ke Bang. The Hung Thoong system, or Thoong valley, is unique and special with many caves located deep in the strictly protected area of Phong Nha - Ke Bang National Park, surrounded by a million-year-old limestone mountain system and primary forest.
Due to its unique location, the lake was temporarily named “Lo Lung” Lake by the expedition team. It is estimated to have a water surface area of about 100 square meters, surrounded by soft hanging stalactites, creating a poetic scene.
The lake's origin and depth remain a mystery. The Jungle Boss expedition team stated that they will continue to return to this area to conduct a more thorough survey in the near future, with the hope of unraveling the mysteries surrounding this unique lake. The discovery of “Lo Lung” Lake is a testament to the diversity and richness of the Phong Nha - Ke Bang cave system. This is also a source of pride for the people of Quang Binh and a potential destination for the development of cave tourism in the future.
With its special values in landscape, geology and archeology, the Quang Binh cave system has become one of the most attractive tourist destinations in Vietnam and the world. Visitors to Quang Binh will not only admire the majestic beauty of the caves but also have the opportunity to participate in adventurous and exciting exploration and adventure activities.
