Xuan Son Ferry Terminal, Quang Binh - this place is a relic to look back on the heroic past of the army and people of Quang Binh in particular and the Vietnamese people in general. This place marks our losses and sacrifices in the resistance war against the US, many compatriots fell in exchange for independence, freedom and the unification of the two regions.

In 1965, the opening of Route 20 Quyet Thang gave rise to the ferry terminal. This ferry terminal has become an essential transport system for the South, responsible for ferrying people and goods across the river. It acts as a bridge that connects roads 12, 15, and 20 Quyet Thang, playing a crucial role in supporting the region's infrastructure.

During the early years of the resistance war against the United States, our army relied on a hand-pulled ferry to transport goods between two wharves, Xuan Son and Phong Nha. The Xuan Son Ferry Terminal in Quang Binh was a strategically important location, and as a result, it became a target for American troops who dropped a significant amount of bombs to block the South's supply route. Despite the danger, the army and people of Quang Binh refused to be intimidated and opened another ferry port, named Nguyen Van Troi or B Ferry, to distract the enemy's attention and ensure the safe transportation of people and goods across the river. As the American army continued to attack, our army became even more indomitable and resilient, determined to bring everything the North had to support the battle for independence in the South.

The American army faced numerous losses in the Southern battlefield and thus, they decided to concentrate on attacking the Xuan Son ferry more intensely. The primary objective of the attack was to block the reinforcements of the South and regain the advantage. They used various tactics to carry out the attack, such as bombing during the day, dropping parachute lights at night, and using flares to probe. Finally, they used magnetic bombs to attack the ferry.

The Xuan Son Ferry was designated as a National Historical Site in 1986. On December 9, 2013, the Prime Minister signed a decision to classify the ferry wharf as a special national historical site, which belongs to the Truong Son Road Historical Relics system.

Looking back at the heroic years, we realize the immense sacrifices made by our people. This place commemorates the unsung heroes who braved falling bombs and bullets to connect the two sides, wholeheartedly dedicating themselves to the Southern battlefield with the aim of liberating the South and reunifying the country.
