Pho is the only Vietnamese dish featured in the world's top 100 for 2025. It ranked 93rd on the list of the world's 100 best dishes, as voted on by Taste Atlas, an international culinary guide.
In early January, Taste Atlas, a prestigious culinary organization based in Croatia, announced its annual 100 Best Foods award for 2025. In the category of the 100 Best Dishes in the World, Pho was the only representative from Vietnam, earning a score of 4.44 stars.
The rankings were determined based on nearly 400,000 votes from a diverse group of experts, diners, and chefs, covering more than 11,000 renowned dishes from various countries. Ratings are given on a star scale, with a maximum of 5 stars. The rankings are updated monthly, with the latest updates occurring in December 2024, when the positions remained unchanged until January of this year. In the December 2023 announcement, Vietnam had two entries in the top 100: banh mi and pho.
Describing pho bo, experts from Taste Atlas noted: "Pho bo is made from meat sourced from various parts of the cow, with broth simmered from bones and tails, along with spices like cinnamon, star anise, cloves, and cardamom. Diners can choose between rare or well-done beef." They also mentioned that beef is the most popular meat choice for Vietnamese people when enjoying pho. The dish is commonly served hot, accompanied by onions, fried breadsticks, fresh vegetables, and lime or chili.
On August 9, 2024, the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism announced a new list of national intangible cultural heritages, which included Pho Nam Dinh and Hanoi.
In December 2024, Taste Atlas released its list of the 100 best cuisines globally, where Vietnam ranked 22nd. Previously, many Vietnamese specialties such as bun cha, banh mi, bun rieu, and bun oc had been recognized in other categories, such as the best street food and the best sandwich in the world.
The top honor was awarded to Lechona, a traditional whole roasted pig dish from Colombia, which received a score of 4.78 stars. Countries with multiple representatives in the top 100 included Italy (12 dishes), China (9), Japan (8), and Thailand (6).
